Few days ago while checking on my student's work, i watched TV3 news at 8pm. One of the news was about our genious boy si Adi Putra ni. Hmmm...sambil menanda the worksheets, ku geleng kepala dengar craps (mind my words, ya?) that came out from his parents, friends even the boy himself. Come on lah. Being a super genius does not make you a genius in other things. Being a teacher, i do know that it is important for a kid to attend a school. Even those homeschool kids pun ada their own centre for it.
Why not the parents gave him other than Maths? Physics ker, Bio ker, Chemistry ker..paling koman pun my fave subject History. Cuba tanya dia siapa Perdana Menteri kita sekarang? Or bila negara kita merdeka? Kalau basic things macam nih dia tak minat, apatah lagi kalau dah pi ke Harvard yang agaknya langsung takder belajar sejarah Tanah Melayu ( gue grad dari CSU je..sah-sah memang takder subject Sejarah Tanah Melayu)....
Lagi satu, kalau dia tak pi sekolah, macamana dia nak belajar social skills? ish, even budak homeschool pun ada masalah bersosial, inikan pulak si genius nih. There are few students that i've known came from homeschooled and they do have sedikit masalah bersosial. Just imagine si genius ni ke Harvard. Would it be easier for him over there whereas here he doesn't even want to go to the ISS Gombak...apatah lagi sekolah gomen yang mungkin bukan standard dia?
My boy is in tadika now. I do know that he's GREAT with his social skills. Kalau tak, takkan dia leh usha minah citer Kisah Kaisara arini kat Giant Melaka? ( blame his dad for that...like father like son!).....and he can mix well with kids from other races being chinese, malay or indians. Not only he has to be good in academic, other things are important too. My school has a very good character building classes. Our kids are good in character. Behaviour wise ada yang notty, but when it comes to character, i'll say these kids are tiptop.
Kalau anak pandai, tapi perangai snobbish nak mampus, tak ker malu mak bapak? Ada sorang nih hantar emel to TV3 saying that the genius needs to attend school sebab ada banyak benda lain yang boleh dipelajari di sekolah. i do 100% agree with this person. The parents dok push for Maths, memang laa the boy tak interested in other things. I remembered a story about this family in UK. Mak dia orang Malaysia. Suaminya orang mana ntah. Anak-anak semua homeschool. it seems that anak-anak dia pandai Maths especially this girl. Can't remember her name and age now. But one day, she ranaway from her home. It seems that she tak tahan lagi dengan pressure from the father asyik push beyond the limits for Maths. Being a girl, maybe she's interested in other things as well. Tak tahu apa kesudahan cerita tu.
As a teacher, i do put high hopes for my son. Apart from that, i also want him to be good in sports, character and all those skills that he can acquire. Whatever he's interested in, i'll give him my 200% support as long as it's legal and tak menyalahi hukum agama. When it comes to support terkenang zaman dolu-dolu. Dad is a very strict person when it comes to study. He was the one who gave me directions when my SPM results were not that good. I think he finally realised that i'm a person that preferred reading compared to figures, formulas, soving maths problem, etc. I'm glad i was given the directions after SPM. Kalau tak, ntah apa agaknya my profession sekarang.
Opss...Amar dah mengigau...hehehe..wanna know apa dia cakap? "Ultraman Tiga!"...sambil angkat tangan. Oh, nowadays, he wants to do his hair cam Ultraman Tiga after taking his bath. Kuat betui penangan hero ciptaan Jepun nih.
